Example A:
One of our esthetician clients, with 15 years’ experience, noticed shortly after starting a waxing procedure that the area was too tender to continue, and advised their client they were going to discontinue the treatment. The client was insistent that they wanted to continue with the waxing. Because the esthetician didn’t want to upset their client they continued, and the bikini wax was completed as per the client’s specifications.
Unfortunately, the waxing client returned the next day explaining that they had been to the hospital to receive stitches as they had experienced bleeding after the waxing procedure. The client had retained a lawyer who alleged professional negligence.
Fortunately, our esthetician client was covered by professional liability insurance, their PROtique insurance policy paid out almost $14,000 in settlement fees two years after the incident.
Example B:
Another example is where one of our clients had a new customer wanting her eyebrows and upper lips waxed. The customer had advised that she had very sensitive skin.
The experienced esthetician used a very pliable warm wax due to her client’s sensitive skin. However, the client asked for the wax to be at a higher temperature as they didn’t think the cooler wax would be effective.
The esthetician completed the service to the client’s specifications. The next day however, the client called to report she had been burned by the wax and was seeking compensation.
Fortunately, our client has professional liability insurance coverage through the PROtique Masterplan policy, which means she has peace of mind that this situation is being handled through the insurance company.
