National Insurance Awareness Day

There’s a day for everything now: national doughnut day, national ping-pong day, national boot shining day. (Okay, we may have made that last one up, but you get the picture.) Even insurance gets in on the national day action: June 28th is National Insurance Awareness Day!

Here are our recommendations on how to celebrate (or acknowledge, depending on your enthusiasm level) National Insurance Awareness Day this year:

  1. Review and update your insurance policies. It’s good to periodically look at the insurance you have and make sure it still fits your needs, and what better time to do that than National Insurance Day? If things in your life have changed – did you buy a boat? Are you thinking about downsizing? Did you sell off your art collection? – your insurance policies may need to change too. Take a look at your policies, then call your insurance broker to confirm you’re properly covered and make any necessary changes.
  2. Learn more about your insurance policies. Most insurance policies include some extra features and coverages that many people aren’t aware of. Ask your broker what your policy includes beyond the basics – there may be some great benefits included in your policy that you weren’t aware of.
  3. Discover the history of insurance. Insurance has been around, in some form, for thousands of years, with merchants insuring their voyages in ancient civilizations as early as 4000 BC . Fire insurance emerged during the 1600s, the same century that saw the establishment of Lloyd’s of London, and by the 1700s, there was life insurance in the United Kingdom.
  4. Check out some insurance fun facts. (No, really – they’re fun!) This list from Brown & Joseph includes interesting, funny, and heartwarming facts about insurance.

On National Insurance Awareness Day, and every day, your insurance broker is there to answer your questions and make sure you have the right policy for you.
