Buffy Mills and Anna Rickard named Elite Women in the insurance industry

Mar. 11, 2025 — Acera Insurance Services Ltd. is proud to share that two outstanding leaders within the organization have been awarded for their contributions to the insurance industry.

Buffy Mills has been recognized as one of Benefits and Pensions Monitor’s Elite Women 2025 and Anna Rickard has received an Elite Women 2025 award from Insurance Business Canada.

The 2025 honourees for both publications highlight the insurance industry’s most accomplished and inspiring female leaders who are driving innovation and inclusion and are ushering in a new era of equitable leadership and transformative change.

“An Elite Woman is someone who gives their time to help raise the next generation and has risen through the ranks as a respected leader, and they hold no ego in their accomplishments. Elite Women in our industry are often regarded as those who truly care and take the time to mentor and create allies to support the cause,” said Denise Russell (Yeng), head of distribution at Specialty Program Group Canada, of Insurance Business Canada’s award criteria.

Chris Sweeney, Managing Editor for Special Reports at Benefits and Pensions Monitor, shared his insights on the selection process, stating, “The list of nominees contained so many exceptional female leaders that it showcased the high level of quality across the sector. Buffy Mills stood out amongst such competition due to her expertise and understanding of the industry, which has enabled her to continually deliver impressive results.”

“I’m honored to be recognized as one of the Elite Women in Insurance by Benefits and Pensions Monitor. Indigenous representation in the insurance industry matters, and I’m committed to doing my part to push for and create space for Indigenous professionals — not just to be included, but to lead,” says Buffy Mills, Acera Indigenous Employee Benefits Consultant.

“Our voices, knowledge and perspectives are vital in shaping the future of this industry. I look forward to continuing to advocate for meaningful representation, ensuring that Indigenous communities and professionals are seen, heard and leading the way.”

“I am proud to be recognized as IBC’s Elite Women for 2025. As an engaged leader, I lead with integrity, valuing each team member’s role and ensuring they have the support to be the best version of themselves every day,” says Anna Rickard, Director of Signature Insurance. “By fostering a culture of collaboration, respect and empowerment, I encourage my team to uplift one another — because when we support each other, we all succeed.”
