Is your business prepared for a supply chain cyberattack?
Acera Insurance’s Aliya Daya, Senior Client Executive, shared ways businesses can protect themselves from supply chain cyberattacks in this Insurance Business Canada magazine article.
With a growing reliance on third-party providers, Canadian businesses are increasingly experiencing supply chain attacks. A recent example of this is the data breach involving PowerSchool, a cloud-based provider that stores data on 60 million North American students in kindergarten through to Grade 12.
“The lack of software updates and the vetting of suppliers and vendors is one of the top vectors for exploitation. I see this across the board, and most times our service providers are among the most vulnerable.”
Cybercriminals are constantly adapting to launch increasingly sophisticated attacks against businesses of all sizes, although Daya noted that small businesses are often the most vulnerable as they often have minimal funds earmarked for cybersecurity.
Regardless of size or industry, Daya shared some ways businesses can protect themselves from the devastating effects of a cyberattack.
“Implement a zero-trust architecture with strict verification for all users, devices and network connections. Incident response planning is also crucial — develop and rehearse plans for responding to supply chain attacks.”
