Acera Insurance’s David Green, Director, Construction, is featured in Construction Business magazine, discussing how wildfires are impacting insurance timelines for construction projects — both new builds and completed works.

“As the severity of wildfires continues to grow and encroach on populated areas, insurers are restricting when and where they’ll provide [insurance] coverage; meaning prime construction months are increasingly being considered uninsurable in parts of [Canada] at some point of the year.”

Most insurers will not attach coverage to a new or completed project if there is a wildfire within a 50-km radius, so David says builders and contractors will need to avoid peak wildfire months (typically July and August in Canada) when starting or finishing a construction project.
