How to Renew Your ICBC Insurance

Like pretty much everything else in the world, the way ICBC does business has changed in the past year.

At Acera Insurance, we adapted our procedures to allow everyone to renew, cancel, or change their car insurance from their home, in accordance with ICBC’s new Autoplan guidelines. While some vehicle insurance transactions still need to be completed in-person, most can be done over the phone.

Here is how to complete your BC auto insurance transaction with Acera Insurance.

To renew, change, or cancel your car insurance policy:

  1. Have your Autoplan paperwork handy (these are the documents you were given last time you renewed or changed your vehicle insurance that probably live in your glove compartment).
  2. Grab your driver’s license, or commit your driver’s license number to memory.
  3. Make sure you have internet access – email confirmation is required to process ICBC transactions remotely.
  4. Call one of our BC offices and follow the prompts to speak with one of our ICBC auto insurance experts.
  5. Review your insurance needs with our Autoplan agent.
  6. Read and respond to the emails the Autoplan agent sends you – by responding, you are consenting to do your ICBC insurance by phone, and acknowledging that the completed transaction is correct.

Your renewed/revised vehicle insurance policy documents will be mailed to you, along with a new decal (for renewals).

For Autoplan cancellations, you must immediately surrender your license plates to one of our offices. During regular business hours, the greeters at one of our locations will collect these cancelled license plates from you.

New Registrations and Transfers of Ownership

To register a vehicle in your name or transfer ownership of a vehicle, you will need to book an appointment to come into one of our offices. (This can be done online, or by calling our office and speaking to a receptionist.)

In addition to the required documentation, please bring a face covering with you when you come in for your appointment. We require everyone entering our office to wear a face mask or shield. If you are unable to wear a face covering for health or accessibility reasons, please call our office prior to your appointment to make alternative arrangements.
