Information technology is evolving

The information technology field is one of Canada’s fastest growing industries. The liability IT contractors face for mistakes, errors and negligence in the course of their work is a very real issue for many professionals. Depending on what area you specialize in, mistakes can range from intellectual property infringement to software failure. As an IT contractor, it’s important to recognize your risks and take precautions to protect yourself.

Here are a few things to consider

  • In every industry, mistakes do happen. When things get heated, as a result of a mistake you’ve made while conducting your business, you may have to defend yourself by hiring a legal service that costs a minimum of $350 per hour. With Professional Liability insurance, your policy defends you against covered losses including any legal costs.
  • Whether you’re conducting your business under your personal name, a trade name, or an incorporated legal entity, you can be held personally liable for financial damages, bodily injuries, or property damages you may cause to a third party. This financial strain will inevitably cripple your business if you don’t have the right insurance in place.
  • Securing appropriate insurance that can protect your business practice elevates your credibility and provides reassurance to potential clients and business partners. Without insurance, you may be at a disadvantage compared to your peers when it comes to securing work.
