Understanding dog trainers insurance

PROfur dog trainers insurance includes coverage for:

  • Obedience, puppy and behaviour training
  • Sports training (includes agility, disc, dock diving, rally & nose/scent work)
  • Trick training
  • Your own demo dog if injured while assisting you with training
  • Facilities you rent to run training courses
  • Remote training and consultations by video, phone or text provided your customers are located in Canada and the training stays within the scope of training that the policy normally covers (obedience, puppy training, behaviour, agility, tricks, and sport including agility, disc, dock diving, rally and nose/scent work).  However, keep in mind that there is no coverage if your online postings, including social media posts and videos, are alleged to have caused:
    • Libel, slander, disparaging a person or organization or their goods, products or services
    • Publication of material that violates a person’s right of privacy
    • Defamation
    • Misappropriation of advertising ideas or style of doing business
    • Infringement of copyright, title or slogan

We are currently unable to insure the following training services:

The essential coverage your industry needs

Our team has been protecting dog trainers since 2006. We truly understand your insurance needs at the frontline of pet care.

Commercial General Liability for Dog Trainers

Protects against accidental injury to others, including pets, or accidental property damage. For example, this is designed to defend you if you are sued for negligence after a customer slips and falls in your training facility, or if something were to fall and injure a pet in your care.

Professional Liability for Dog Trainers

Also referred to as errors and omissions insurance or E&O, this type of liability insurance offers key financial protection in the event you are faced with a lawsuit. If a customer sues you and alleges your service or advice caused injury or loss to a pet, E&O assists with compensating you for your legal defense costs.

Accidental Injury, Loss or Death of Pets

Offers coverage for unexpected costs incurred in order to care for pets injured or lost while in your care. This can include, but is not limited to, emergency veterinarian expenses. One major benefit of this coverage – you are not required to be sued in order to access support.

Business Contents and Equipment

Includes replacement cost coverage for tools, equipment and stock owned by your business while it is on the premises of your business, plus any renovations or leasehold improvements you are responsible for. Broad, multi-peril coverage is provided – in other words, the policy protects you against a wide variety of things that could damage your property such as fire, theft, vandalism and sewer backup among others.

Business Interruption

Covers lost profit and pays for necessary ongoing expenses if your pet boarding facility is interrupted or closed due to a property damage claim. Also covers certain extra costs associated with the disruption. For example, if your facility suffers extensive water damage after a storm and you’re closed for two months, the policy will reimburse you for the profit you’ve lost and it will pay for necessary operating expenses that continue even while you’re closed, such as your salary and loan payments.

Equipment Breakdown

Insures electronic equipment, including your electrical panel, wiring, air conditioner, against damage from electrical disturbances, as well as mechanical breakdown. Equipment breakdown coverage can also help compensate for the lost profit and necessary expenses in the event you are closed due to the equipment breakdown. Many commercial leases require you to carry this coverage.

Trainer’s Own Demo Dog

This provides coverage for expenses if your own demo dog is injured or killed while assisting with your training services.

Pets in Transit

The policy also insures pets while they are being transported in your care (i.e. If you have to take them to the vet; if you offer pickup or drop-off service).

Runaway Recovery Expenses

Offers coverage for reasonable expenses associated with your attempts to locate a pet that has escaped or been stolen (i.e. advertising, travel, pet transport, veterinary services).

Reward for Return of Runaway

Permits the extension of a monetary award for the safe return, or for information leading to the safe return, of a customer’s pet which escaped or was stolen from your care.

Proof of Loss Preparation Costs and Professional Fees

Two benefits which help cover expenses incurred in order to establish the amount of your loss after a claim and to assist with the completion of a Proof of Loss form (which you need to submit before a claim can be paid). For example, if you require the form to be notarized, this benefit will help cover the service fee.

PROfur Coverage Extension

This is a package of various coverages included on all PROfur Masterplan policies. It is designed to maximize your protection by covering gaps that often arise unpredictably after a claim. It offers supreme protection for your dog training business.

We work to find the best dog trainers insurance to support the unique need of your pet care business.
